From Amaranthus to Tanacetum: A Personal Herbarium

This project began almost by accident. While trying to figure out my own approach to still life photography, I developed a keen interest in botanical illustration. I started to scan my specimens in order to get a better look at details of petal and leaf structure, and the result of this experiment turned out to be what I had been trying to achieve with my still life photography all along. Scanning plants creates a tension between grace and messiness, intention and chance. The subjects appear well-defined enough to be considered as botanical specimens and yet they remain open to more interpretations.
